As we approach the summer holidays, we would like to remind parents, carers and students of the importance of staying safe around water. Many families will be spending time outdoors over the break, so we have attached some important water safety advice to help everyone enjoy the holidays safely.

Today, students took part in the highly anticipated school water fight! There was a fantastic turnout, with both students and staff joining in the fun. It was wonderful to see everyone laughing, enjoying themselves, and making great memories.
This year, students from across the school have come together to share their ideas and opinions about how to make our school an even better place to learn and grow. Their enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to positive change has been inspiring.
Please find attached the 2026–2027 Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) Training Programme, designed and delivered by the Speech & Language Therapy Service at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. All training will be delivered via Microsoft Teams.
Important Information for Families.
Yesterday, our students had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Eco Conference at Ewood Park, and they were an absolute credit to the school. Their behaviour was exemplary throughout the day, and they fully immersed themselves in all the stalls and activities on offer.

Fully funded community events across Lancashire for families of children with complex health needs
This week, our Year 7 pupils set off for their highly anticipated residential trip to High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre, and they certainly rose to the challenge, quite literally in some cases! From canoe paddles to high zip-wire saddles, the students embraced every moment with enthusiasm, teamwork, and plenty of smiles.
STEM Week Sparks Curiosity at Broadfield Specialist School.

Riding the Rapids is a free course for parents and carers of children who have a diagnosis of Autism, severe learning disabilities or other complex disabilities. The course aims to help parents to understand and support their child’s behaviour, in the context of additional needs.

In a very exciting new development, our college pupils have opened a cafe at Scott Park. The park is open to the public 10am to 1.45pm Monday- Friday, during term time.

On the 24th March 2025 Broadfield specialist school became the first school in Lancashire to receive the Asthma Friendly School Award.

To celebrate World Art Day 2025, we will be running an Art competition over the Easter holidays.
Skiing enrichment has been able to continue this year thanks to the Winter Sports Foundation, so far over 50 students at Broadfield have took to the slopes of Ski Rossendale to learn how to slide down the slopes thanks to their funding.
Our school hens (Peggy & Mabel) continue to spread joy and provide a nurturing environment for our students.

The International Day of Mathematics (I.D.M.) is celebrated every year on March 14, bringing together countries worldwide for various math activities. Interestingly, this date is also known as Pi Day since it can be written as 3/14, which corresponds to the mathematical constant Pi, approximately 3.14. This makes March 14 a perfect day to celebrate mathematics!

With the Easter break approaching, at Kooth Digital Health we appreciate there will be some young people who may struggle during the holidays without the access to the daily pastoral support, teaching staff and friends that the school community provides.
24 students attended “High Adventure” activity centre for a two night three day residential. All the students took part in a wide range of outdoor activities.
Hair and Beauty WJEC class all working hard in the salon practicing manicures and how to use tools correctly.
Last week was National Careers week 2025. At Broadfield Specialist School, students engaged with careers activities including our annual Dragons Den style Competition.
Students were given an opportunity to participate in an exciting work experience programme with North Lancs Training Group.

Thursday the 6th of March was celebrated across the country as World Book Day.
Today students had the opportunity to attend a mental health & self harm awareness session with Satveer.

On Thursday we had a themed day for valentines day. Each student or class had the opportunity to make a valentines card.
As part of the Duke of Edinburgh enrichment programme the students have to volunteer to support others.

The Max Card is the UK’s leading discount card for families of SEND and looked after children. Families can use their Max Card at venues across the UK to get free or discounted admission.
Although Christmas is not always about gifts, we are hoping to spread some joy for our less fortunate students by launching our very own Christmas tree appeal.
Please see attached Christmas posters, families can only book on one pantomime and one party. Priority will be given to students on free school meals.

On Monday 30th September the WJEC Hair and Beauty group went to Manchester Professional Beauty Show to gain an insight to all things new and upcoming in the beauty industry.

Broadfield is an Asthma friendly school and we are hoping to gain the asthma friendly status award for our care of students with asthm
We are pleased to tell you about our online support for our school library catalogue. The new system, Libresoft allows students and staff to view our school library catalogue online.
On Tuesday 16th April Bill and Flapjack our school hens arrived in school. They are already very popular with staff and students and are a lovely addition to Broadfiled.
On Friday 22nd March, the school band took part in a reward trip for all their hard work this year.
At Broadfield we are lucky to have been able to start to provide Skiing enrichment funded by the WSF (Winter Sports Foundation)

Thursday 7th March World Book Day was celebrated across the country.
We secured funding from Active Lancashire to purchase two 11 a-side football kits which are being modelled by some of our students.

On Tuesday 6th February, a selection of our students took part in a session from Red Rose Recovery. Scott and Ryan joined us from the charity and talked about their life experiences.
THE JJ EFFECT workshop came into school on Wednesday 10th January. Over 60 of our students, from all key stages took part in what was; a very emotional but amazingly beneficial learning opportunity.
We held our annual Christmas fayre on 14.12.23, the turnout from parents, carers and friends was amazing. Students thoroughly enjoyed the event and were extremely proud of the items they had made to sell.
On Thursday 9th November we had a visit from Lancashire Constabulary. Detective Keogh and PCSO Mark Hill came into school to deliver a presentation on drugs awareness.
Some of our pupils have enjoyed the incredible opportunity to partake in Equine Facilitated Learning at Riding For The Disabled (RDA).
