Through our Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance, CEIAG, at Broadfield Specialist School, we constantly strive to support and strengthen our students’ ambitions for their future.
Broadfield regularly evaluates itself against the Gatsby Good Career Guidance Benchmarks and makes improvements where appropriate.
The CEIAG team includes school-based independent career advisors, a work experience co-ordinator, and the subject leader for CEIAG, Mr Twist, who can be contacted on the school telephone number or by email at martyn-twist@broadfield.lancs.sch.uk.
The aim of our CEIAG team, through recognised accredited study programmes, work experience placements and work-related activities, in liaison with employers and external agencies, is to educate and prepare our students for the world of work.
Our CEIAG curriculum, placements and activities offer students the opportunity to gain qualifications; practise and develop key skills in a work setting; gain a better understanding of the world of work; and improve their personal and social development.
“Dear Parent/Guardian
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mo Banks and I am currently working as the independent Adviser Careers and Future Education at Broadfield Specialist School. I am in school every week, and may already have met with yourselves at previous annual reviews.
My main role is to make sure that all pupils, whatever their level of ability, are aware of all the different options that may be available to them on leaving school. I am in a very privileged position in that I regularly meet the students on a 1:1 basis to talk to them about their futures. As a lot of the decisions that need to be made involve families, I also aim to attend reviews from year 10 through to year 14. If you would like to meet with me prior to your son/daughter’s review meeting to discuss their post 16 options then please do not hesitate to get in touch. We can meet in person or virtually via a platform such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Alternatively I am happy for you to call me if you prefer a telephone conversation.
Prior to the review meetings commencing from year 10/11 onwards it would be useful for you and your son/daughter to have started to attend open evenings/events at local FE Colleges/post 16 providers to begin to get an overview of what is available in your local area, please consult the individual College websites prior to attending the event for open event dates/times and information and any changes to the schedules ( many of the college open evenings will be in the from Sept 2024 onwards through to Feb 2025).
I also like to invite colleges and other post 16 providers who may be able to provide advice about the type of study, transition and learning support available at their establishment to the annual reviews in year 11, so I want to take this opportunity to ask if there is a representative from a particular college, training provider or another type of provision you would like to see attend your son/daughter’s review meeting?
The presence of a post 16 provider at the annual review meeting does not mean you definitely have to choose that provision for your son/daughter. Instead, it gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about what they can offer. This will enable you to make an informed choice regarding which post 16 provision will be best placed to support your son/daughter, so that they can reach their full potential.
If you could select which post 16 providers you would like to see at the review meeting, if relevant on the slip enclosed, then I will aim to invite them and ask if they are available to attend.
If you would prefer to email me your choice, then you can email me at: – maureen-banks@broadfield.lancs.sch.uk
M. Banks”
