Student Leadership

At Broadfield we have a thriving student leadership team. The team comprises of a Head Student, deputies, prefects and a student council group

The Student Leadership Team provides the school with effective role models for younger students, carrying out certain duties and enabling the students to have their voice heard. All these factors are used to promote positive changes for the school.

Head Student

This is changed annually. When students are in year 10 they can apply to become part of the student leadership team. Each student must complete a formal application and covering letter. This can be presented via a word document, PowerPoint presentation or through pictures. Once the applications have been received then a ballot takes place. Every member of staff has the opportunity to vote for who they would like to become the new heads of school. Once elected each SLT member will represent school in a variety of ways, such as, meeting and greeting at school events and generally leading by example around school.

Prefects

Every student in years 10 and 11 can apply to be a prefect.  Each student must complete a formal application and covering letter. This can be presented via a word document, PowerPoint presentation or through pictures. The role of our prefects is developing all the time and will include partaking in tasks around school, such as, being part of the ‘Eco-Team’, helping the younger students at break times and lunches. Our prefects are visible around school and all students can approach them with any issues they may have.

School Council

Every form group nominates a school council representative which changes every term.

Weekly meetings take place every Wednesday, period 6. During the meeting all students are empowered to raise any issues that have arisen around school. Every topic is debated and minutes are recorded each week. The minutes are then discussed with the head teacher. The school council has recently initiated several positive changes for our school. These include; raising the standard of school dinners, raising money for charity, improving provision at break-times and making environmentally friendly changes around the school. These changes have all been led by the students’ voice.

As well as making positive changes in our school, there are continuing experiences for student council members including trips to House of Commons and visits from local MP’s.

Student council members keep a record of progress which will be published on our website termly.
