We met the instructors on the Monday and they told us we were walking up a hill, the students immediately saw the hill and believed it to be a mountain, they said they wouldn’t be able to do it, But they did! At the top some of the students did some “Weaseling” which was climbing through small spaces in between the rocks. I could not believe how brave they all were and the students were proud of themselves when they realised what they had achieved.
After our evening meal we took part in a team challenge called “Eggbert” we had to drop an egg from a great height without it smashing. The teams had to build a contraption out of minimal resources to stop the egg from smashing. They built parachutes and baskets like hot air balloons, 3 out of the 4 groups had eggs that survived! The instructors were very impressed with their efforts.
On Tuesday we went canoeing. We played lots of games in our canoes and pretended to be pirates. It was great fun and we all got wet. After lunch we did archery, bouldering and another team building game. All the students were amazing, they gave 100% in all the activities and we definitely had some budding Robin Hoods!
After our evening meal the students were feeling a little tired after such a busy couple of days, they all had a shower and put their pyjamas on before going to the cinema room to watch the very funny “Hotel Transylvania”.
On Wednesday morning we had to pack our cases and strip our beds before our final activities. The students were so helpful, they worked together to get organised and tidy. Our final activities were climbing the high ropes and going on the incredibly high zip wire. Wow, the students again amazed us. Yes, we did have some tears, but when they accomplished the climb to the zip wire they were so proud of themselves.
Mrs Mills and Staff are blown away by the attitudes and maturity that every child has shown on the residential. They have all achieved so much and have made memories that they will hopefully never forget. I know that I certainly won’t. I am so proud of each and every one of them.
