THE JJ EFFECT workshop came into school on Wednesday 10th January. Over 60 of our students, from all key stages took part in what was; a very emotional but amazingly beneficial learning opportunity. This is a little bit of information about the purpose of the JJ Effect, which is led by Byron Highton.
“I established the JJ Effect following the murder of my brother Jon-Jo in 2014. Since then, I have drawn on my experience to educate young people to steer them away from knife crime, county lines, grooming, criminal exploitation, among many others. The unique services we offer are that we are relatable to the young people we work with. They can see them- selves in us; they are able to talk to us and know they will be understood. We have developed our style having presented to approximately 150,000 young people.“
Our students thoroughly enjoyed the session and took a lot from it. Although it was very emotional, everyone took part and interacted very positively.
Afterwards, Byron stated that we we’re one of the best schools he has ever attended. This was due to the fantastic answers that our students gave and some fantastic acting by Freddy in year 11. All the students were given time after the workshop to reflect on what they had just experienced.
