On Tuesday 16th April Bill and Flapjack our school hens arrived in school. They are already very popular with staff and students and are a lovely addition to Broadfiled.

There is growing research that introducing animals in schools can help reduce anxiety in pupils as well as building confidence, empathy and life skills. We feel students could gain a variety of skills by participating in sessions with our hens:
· See an Eglu (hen coop) and find out how it works
· Learn how to handle hens
· Learn about eggs and laying
· Learn how to pick a suitable garden spot
· Daily care and maintenance requirements
· Learn how and what to feed your hens
· Discover more about health and well-being and observation of looks and behaviour
Many students have already been lucky enough to meet the hens and we are looking forward to getting to know them more throughout the next term.
