KS4 Drama

At Broadfield our aim is to provide a dynamic and enriching learning experience that nurtures creativity, self-expression, and confidence in our students.

Through a diverse range of theatrical activities, our students will explore the world of drama, developing essential communication and collaboration skills.

Intent

Drama gives students the opportunity to develop and build confidence, imagination, creativity, team work and communication. Giving students the ability to devise theatrical work, participate in performances and respond to different styles of dramatic arts, whilst feeling confident to express themselves and present their individuality when expressing their viewpoint. Students will also be inspired by real world topics, classic stories, devised and non-devised theatre and so much more. Giving students multiple opportunities to create meaningful theatre. Drama is an opportunity for students to be creative and innovative whilst they also have fun, build friendships and create memories. Broadfield promotes and celebrates, “Drama for all”. The curriculum is accessible by all students across all ages and abilities. Drama allows students to celebrate their individuality in a safe and nurturing environment.

Implementation

Drama can be accessed across all areas of the curriculum through its promotion and development of confidence, resilience, independency and speaking and listening skills. Building on these skills in a safe, nurturing environments will support students in their future pursuits. Drama is monitored and tracked not just through physical observations but also through the recognised progress monitoring system BSqaured. Progress can be assessed through the results of English Spoken Language, this highlights moments of success and development when students have participated in group discussion, presented work in front of the class, participated in a speaking and listen or role play activity all these skills are developed in and throughout Drama lessons. The art form of Drama supports SEND students with their physicality and coordination. As a practical lesson it supports students to learn in a physical and sensory way meaning accessibility for all students at Broadfield.

We want students to take pride in the work they have devised, developed and presented. Drama allows multiple opportunities for students to physically present their work to peers, staff, friends and family in the form of show cases, festivals, concerts, variety shows and end of year performances. Drama here at Broadfield celebrates the talents of all our students meaning equal opportunity to perform.

Impact

Drama inspires all, builds confidence, supports self-expression and has an impact across the whole school both academically and creatively. Broadfield provides students with the opportunity to create drama in a safe and supportive environment. Inspiring creativity for all students
