Whilst ‘Thrive’ is a whole school approach embedded within every classroom, our intensive ‘Thrive’ pathway offers targeted support and interventions for a small number of students experiencing significant difficulties. We create a safe space with consistent, positive adult relationships where students can practice emotional regulation techniques, rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and gradually re-engage with the wider curriculum.
The Thrive Approach is a therapeutic and social-emotional framework for young people, based on developmental psychology, neuroscience, and attachment theory. It enables us as a school, to support a child’s emotional well-being through practical strategies and interventions. All Teachers and support staff at Broadfield are trained on using the Thrive Approach. Our Thrive practitioners use an online assessment tool that identifies specific needs for each pupil and provides targeted action plans. The Thrive approach emphasises building positive relationships and helping students understand and manage their feelings to improve their overall development and learning. The ultimate goal is to help students build resilience and manage their feelings so they can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
All Broadfield pupils are assessed using Thrive’s online assessment tool. This helps us to identify each child’s social and emotional needs and plan appropriate support.
Every pupil takes part in weekly Thrive lessons, and the Thrive approach is embedded across all areas of our curriculum. This ensures that emotional wellbeing and personal development are supported throughout the school day.
Some pupils may benefit from additional, more focused support. Thrive interventions are available to all pupils and provide targeted strategies and personalised action plans to help children develop specific skills.
Teachers can refer pupils to our Thrive Interventions Team if extra support is needed. This team is made up of trained Thrive practitioners who deliver enhanced, individualised support in our dedicated Thrive intervention spaces.
Referred pupils typically receive intervention for a minimum of six weeks. After this period, progress is reviewed, and pupils may either continue with further targeted intervention or transition back to class-based Thrive activities.
In some cases, a small number of pupils may require a bespoke timetable that combines education and wellbeing activities. These personalised timetables are short-term measures designed to help pupils develop the confidence and skills needed to successfully return to full classroom learning.
Thrive assessment data is reviewed and recorded at the end of each term. This information is included in each pupil’s Learning Journey and forms part of their annual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) review documentation.
