Functional Skills Maths should enable the student to develop confidence and fluency in, and a positive attitude towards, Mathematics. Students should be able to demonstrate their understanding in Maths by
using it in real world situations such as making a purchase at a shop, catching a bus/train on time as well as demonstrating a good knowledge of all strands of Mathematics.

This should enable students to understand a wide range of Maths at a more advanced level. They will learn how to use trigonometry, algebra, Pythagoras theorem amongst other topics. Learning these Maths skills at GCSE level will allow them to build up essential skills that will be used on a daily basis in later life, skills such as problem solving, communication and analyzing data.
