The Lancashire Safeguarding Partnerships have launched a new Practice Guidance: Identifying and Responding to Domestic Abuse, designed to support professionals working with children, families and adults affected by domestic abuse. The guidance promotes a consistent, trauma-informed approach to identifying abuse, assessing risk, safeguarding victims, holding perpetrators accountable, and ensuring children receive the support they need.
The document provides practical information on the many forms domestic abuse can take, including coercive and controlling behaviour, emotional abuse, economic abuse, stalking, harassment, technology-facilitated abuse, and non-fatal strangulation. It also highlights the significant impact domestic abuse can have on children, young people and families, and outlines local pathways for support and intervention.
The guidance includes information about risk assessment tools, multi-agency working arrangements, Lancashire support services, and safety planning resources to help professionals respond effectively and confidently to concerns.
We encourage all professionals involved in safeguarding and supporting children, young people, adults, and families to read the guidance and familiarise themselves with the key principles and pathways outlined within it.
