This years GCSE group have surpassed expectations with all their Art work. We opened our exhibition of work at The Howarth Art Gallery, Manchester Road, Accrington on 20th June 2017 and will be showing it there throughout the summer. If you get chance do go along and see it !
On 21st June school held its annual Music Festival to which parents and carers were invited. We were really lucky with the weather and our guests were treated to performances from our school band, African drumming and dance performances as well as solo performances from some of our students. ‘Friends of Broadfield’ organised some stalls and games and we raised over £500 to help more »
Our school band recently took part in the Annual Schools Music Festival which is organised by the Rotary Club of Accrington. The Rotary invited our Music Teacher, Mrs. Mills, and one of the band members to a celebration lunch at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors. After lunch the Rotary Club presented school with a cheque for £100 as a thank you for taking part! Well more »
Class 4.2 have been studying a famous ballad The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes as part of their English Text work. They have been acting out the ballad in class and have recently donned costumes and visited the village of Newchurch in Rossendale to film their interpretation. On Friday, 10th March, our school choir is competing in the Burnley Festival of Speech, Music & Stage Dance. They will be performing Adiemus by Karl Jenkins. They have been practising with Mrs Mills and we wish them luck.
Our School Band will feature in the Rotary Club ‘Hyndburn Schools’ 26th Annual Celebration Of Music’ at Oswaldtwistle Civic Hall on Wednesday 8th March at 7.00pm. This week we had MMADD day at Broadfield Specialist School. This was a mixture of Music, Media, Art, Dance and Drama. The students went to different sessions throughout the day and had the opportunity to experience a wide range of cultures through all of the arts. Following a very successful entry into The Unique Arts Awards competition run by The Mouth and Foot Painters Artists we have been lucky enough to be awarded a cheque of £3000 to use towards Art resources. Our Christmas show this year was called ‘A Night At The Musicals’ and featured each class in school performing a song from their favourite film or stage show. Numbers included ‘We Will Rock You’ , ‘Dancing Queen’, ‘I Dreamed A Dream’, Any Dream Will Do’ and a medley from Grease. On our last day before our Christmas break we had a ‘Christingle’ assembly. Each class made their own Christingle using an orange and dried fruits and placed a candle in each one which was lit in the assembly. The whole school joined in Christmas Carols and it was a lovely end to the Autumn term. Wishing everyone a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year.
