On the 20th November three of our students Waseem, Alex and Isabella went down to London to the finals of an Art competition ‘Unique Arts awards’ run by the charity ‘Mouth and Foot Painting Artists’. Extra music lessons are available for our students in guitar and drum kit. Every Monday one of our talented ex-students, Thomas Palmowski, delivers drum kit lessons. The lessons are engaging for our students and they enjoy a 1:1 session, learning the drum kit for 15 minutes. On Wednesday,15th November, the GCSE art group visited Tate Liverpool art gallery to see the work of Roy Lichtenstein. The pupils have been exploring Pop Art this term and this was an excellent opportunity to see one of its most celebrated artists. Macbeth – The Shakespeare Schools’ Festival 2017 For the fifth year, students from Broadfield Specialist School, took part in The Shakespeare Schools’ Festival. This year their chosen play was a musical abridged adaptation of Macbeth. Using Shakespeare’s original language, the students chose which lines would tell the story in the most understandable way. This years GCSE group have surpassed expectations with all their Art work. We opened our exhibition of work at The Howarth Art Gallery, Manchester Road, Accrington on 20th June 2017 and will be showing it there throughout the summer. If you get chance do go along and see it !
On 21st June school held its annual Music Festival to which parents and carers were invited. We were really lucky with the weather and our guests were treated to performances from our school band, African drumming and dance performances as well as solo performances from some of our students. ‘Friends of Broadfield’ organised some stalls and games and we raised over £500 to help more »
Our school band recently took part in the Annual Schools Music Festival which is organised by the Rotary Club of Accrington. The Rotary invited our Music Teacher, Mrs. Mills, and one of the band members to a celebration lunch at The Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors. After lunch the Rotary Club presented school with a cheque for £100 as a thank you for taking part! Well more »
Class 4.2 have been studying a famous ballad The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes as part of their English Text work. They have been acting out the ballad in class and have recently donned costumes and visited the village of Newchurch in Rossendale to film their interpretation. On Friday, 10th March, our school choir is competing in the Burnley Festival of Speech, Music & Stage Dance. They will be performing Adiemus by Karl Jenkins. They have been practising with Mrs Mills and we wish them luck.
Our School Band will feature in the Rotary Club ‘Hyndburn Schools’ 26th Annual Celebration Of Music’ at Oswaldtwistle Civic Hall on Wednesday 8th March at 7.00pm.
